Bodegas Castano 2005 Solanera icon - Our Price $17.49

"Saturated purple. Smoky raspberry and cherry on the nose, with a sexy mocha quality adding complexity. Fleshy, round dark fruit liqueur flavors caress rather than pummel the palate. Gentle tannins arrive late to add structure but this is all about silky, juicy fruit."

Jade Mountain Napa Valley Viognier 2005 icon - Special Price: $14.99
Regular Price: $35.00

Our Viognier captures all the qualities that have made this grape variety prized for centuries in its native Rhone Valley. The aromas are perfumed with gardenia, honeydew melon, apricot and peach. The bright fruit character carries through in the opulent, beautifully balanced flavors, and then lingers on the finish. Most remarkable is the rich, silky texture of Viognier. It has a natural lushness on the palate that we have emphasized by barrel-fermenting and aging the wine in neutral, four-year-old French oak barrels. We gently stirred the yeast lees during the ten months of aging to contribute roundness and complexity, without pronounced oak character that would distract from the focused fruit expression. Lightly chill our Viognier and enjoy simply with creamy white cheeses and fresh fruit. Or match it with delicate crab cakes, grilled or smoked trout, pork roasted with rosemary or chicken salad with fresh pineapple, mango and macadamia nuts.

"Tastes sweet beyond ripeness, with a complex range of juicy apple, pear and mango flavors that are rich and mouthcoating." -Wine Spectator

Bitch 2006 Grenache icon - Our Price $9.99

Bitch, a provocatively named 100% Grenache from R Wines, achieves the potential of this difficult-to-grow grape. Winemakers Chris Ringland and Lisa Wetherell use fruit from the Barossa Valley in South Australia. Yields from the 25-year-old vines grown in sand over clay are modest, 3 to 5 tons an acre. Fruit sourced from Vineyards in the Ebenezer sub-region of Barossa. Ripe quince and lifted spice with a rich juicy concentration. Intense perfumed characters come from the sandy loam and dark berry characters from the heavier red-brown soils.

"Bitch Grenache is sourced from 40- to 60-year-old vines from the Ebenezer sub-region of the Barossa. With the price of Cotes du Rhone soaring due to the weak dollar, I am hard pressed to think of a better value in full-flavored Grenache. The 2006 Bitch Grenache received no oak treatment. Medium ruby-colored, it presents an alluring bouquet of earth, smoke, rhubarb, cherry, and strawberry. Supple, sweet, and tasty, this wine totally over-delivers for its humble price and is an exceptional value. R Wines is a new company founded by importer and marketing genius, Dan Philips, along with co-owner, renowned winemaker, Chris Ringland. Winemakers for R Wines are Chris Ringland, Lisa Wetherell, Andrew Hercock, and John Hughes. It encompasses four familiar labels, Marquis Philips, 3 Rings, Roogle, and Bitch, along with 13 others created especially for R Wines. Needless to say, the packaging of these wines is amazingly creative but, more importantly, what is in the bottle consistently over-delivers from low-end to high-end."

Sweet oak spice and floral pastilles accent intense redcurrant and cherry flavors, with suggestions of earthy tobacco and succulent herbs. Finishes with deeper, darker blackcurrant and plum flavors and well-managed, silky tannins. Offers impressive complexity for the money."

Domaine de Nizas Coteaux du Languedoc 2003 - Our Price $17.99 icon

This AOC Coteaux du Languedoc is the Domaine's flagship wine and expresses the essence of the terroir of Caux-Nizas. The Syrah has floral expression and medium body on our types of soil, whilst the Mourvèdre tends to be fuller bodied with good structure and complexity, which has not ceased to add to the palate since its introduction into the blend in 2001.

As for the Grenache, it brings superb generosity and softness to the wine. The oak aging of part of the wine to be included in the final blend in large barrels, aims to enhance the Mediterranean character of our wines without dominating it. Thanks to its structure and balance, this fine wine from Languedoc can be cellared and aged for many years.

Blend: 60% Syrah, 35% Mourvédre, 5% Grenache Noir

Catena Chardonnay 2006 - Our Price $17.99 icon

"Catena Zapata’s 2006 Chardonnay was sourced from three estate vineyards and fermented with natural yeasts. It then spent 10 months sur-lie in French oak, 40% new. Light gold-colored with a slight green tint, it exhibits a nose of slate, toast, butterscotch, pear, and apple. Medium-bodied, the wine is nicely balanced by crisp acidity, and the flavors are intense and persistent. Drink this outstanding value over the next 1-2 years. When all is said and done, Catena Zapata is the Argentina winery of reference – the standard of excellence for comparing all others. The brilliant, forward-thinking Nicolas Catena remains in charge, with his daughter, Laura, playing an increasingly large role. The Catena Zapata winery is an essential destination for fans of both architecture and wine in Mendoza. It is hard to believe, given the surge in popularity of Malbec in recent years, that Catena Zapata only began exporting Malbec to the United States in 1994."
