Father’s Day is June 19th – are you ready?

Shopping for a Father’s Day gift can be difficult. Some Dads want funny gifts, some Dads want sentimental gifts, some Dads want family time and some just want a day off! Never fear – egazing is here to help you find that perfect gift for Dad!

Step one: Stop for a second and think about Dad. What does he like? What does he do? What are his thoughts about Father’s Day?

Step two: Decide what type of gift you want to give him. Father’s Day gifts fall into a few categories: meaningful, practical, indulgent or easy (but still very sweet).

Meaningful Gifts
Meaningful gifts are the ones that impart a sincere thought or feeling. They say, "thanks for all the help", "I’m sorry for what I’ve put you through over the years", or simply, "you’re the best Dad a kid could ask for". Maybe it’s a customized item, like a personalized mug, t-shirt, or picture frame with a photo of you and Dad that makes him smile. Any of these ideas are perfect for a new Dad. New Dads are easy to shop for. Give them anything with the baby’s name and/or photo on it and you’re good to go.

Practical Gifts
Maybe your Dad’s not the sentimental type. Many fathers look to Father’s Day for the simple joy of relaxing in the backyard hammock, with a cooler of his favorite beverage at arms length and miles away from the honey-do list. Tools are often great gifts for these types of Dads. Think about what they work on and find a gift that would be helpful to them, like a tool belt or flashlight. Grilling accessories are also great Father’s Day gifts if Dad is known as the Grill Master. Consider a fun apron, a personalized branding iron (think about how proud he’d be to serve his friends a burger or steak with his initials or favorites college team’s logo branded into it!)

Indulgent Gifts
Oooo, these are the fun ones! These are the gifts that you give simply because Dad is into something that makes him happy (whether you appreciate it or not). For instance, if he’s a Sci-Fi nut, you could give him a Star Trek bathrobe or a Star Wars Jedi Projector. If he’s a Three Stooges fan, you could give him the 75th Anniversary DVD Box Set. If he’s a sports fan, you could really spoil him with an MLB Logo Lawn Stencil. If he’s a gadget geek, what about a Swiss Army Knife or Charging Station? Basically any time you give Dad a gift straight out of list of hobbies, he’ll love it. Just think about what he does with his spare time, and choose a gift with that type of theme.

Easy Gifts
Hey, practical gifts are no less meaningful, you know! If Dad doesn’t need "something else to sit on a shelf and collect dust" (yeah, we’ve all heard that one, right?) maybe a Gift Basket is in order! You can chose a great theme, include a personal message, and it will be gone after the next game or poker night! Of course – there’s always the epitome of easy father’s Day gifts… the tie. Hey, don’t knock it – some Dads love ‘em!

Remember – if you’re thinking about giving Dad a personalized gift of any kind, you’ll want to order that soon. many merchants require about two weeks to customize and ship your order to you on time. Some can manage rush jobs, but don’t risk it. Just plan ahead.

No matter what gift you give Dad for Father’s Day, he should at least feel a little spoiled, don’t you think? Have you ever been shopping for a gift, unsure of what you’re looking for, then found the perfect one? A gift so cool that you just had to tell your friends about it?

I did that today! I found some neat new Gadget Gift Ideas that really impressed me. I’m so excited, I thought I’d share them with you.

The first is the PhoneGuard Drive Safe Software.

As the mother of a teenager getting ready to enter drivers’ training (gulp), I just love this idea. When you load the software, it will temporarily disable texting on their cell phone as long as they’re in the vehicle. We all know what a dangerous, even deadly, distraction texting while driving can be. We also know how much teenagers can text! I think my daughter’s thumbs can do about 90 miles an hour!

Speaking of 90 mph – this software will also send you a message if the driver is speeding! It’s almost like you’re sitting in the passenger seat with them!

The second cool gadget I found is the iPhone Case with Keyboard.

I just love the idea of having an iPhone (though I haven’t sprung for one yet), but I’m also a bit of a traditionalist. I prefer a regular keypad. The idea of my phone trying to "help" me by finishing my words makes me crazy, and my fingers just can’t seem to hit the right letters on those tiny touchscreens.

Many people prefer a Blackberry for the keyboard, but would also like to have the conveniences of the iPhone. This cool case offers a flip-out keyboard that will transform an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 into a tool even a traditionalist could love

The last fun thing I found while gadget shopping today is the USB Portable Chess Game.

Have you ever really wanted to play a game of chess, but knew you’d never have the time to finish it? This portable roll-up chess board digitally records your every move so you can stop and restart – or bring up the moves of previous games so you can study your strategy! You can even replay old games to see if that risky move you passed up would have made the difference.

Whether you want to play a friend or the computer, be it a worthy adversary or a novice, you’ll always be able to finish the game no matter what your busy lifestyle entails.

I’m having SO much fun shopping for you! I’ve always hated shopping for myself, but enjoyed shopping for gifts for others. I hope you find something you like too!

What a month of January around here. We have made some big changes to the egazing home page and are now featuring gift ideas up front. If you haven’t visited lately, please do and let us know what you think!

Next month will be the 12th anniversary of egazing and I want to say thanks to all of you readers that have helped keep it going through the years.

A big reason for the change is from the feedback I have gotten. You see, even though I would feature the best coupons up front, when I would speak to people in person, the first question I would always get was “What is your best deal?” and “Do you have suggestions for what I can use that coupon on?”

I would always answer as I see what the stores are giving the best deals on and where the best new gift ideas are, but egazing just wasn’t set up to answer those questions for readers. With all these changes, we are answering those questions every day and having lots of fun doing it. We hope you will visit and follow along!

So, to answer those questions, you can now see our favorites (and yours) from the new gifts each week in the newsletter and you can see all the new gifts in our New Gift Ideas section. We are adding quite a few new gifts each day. Hi egazers!

The online holiday shopping season is winding down and is going out with a flourish this year as the 17th lands on a Friday. Traditionally, the 15th to the 17th of December are the last days to safely order online to get those gifts on time as standard ground shipping takes 7-9 days.

This also is when those stores will be offering shipping specials! YEAH! Many even have free shipping on any order and we have those featured below and will send out a quick note later today if we are notified of more that you should know about. You can also watch the egazing home page and new coupons section for our latest finds on shipping deals.

I just want to say though, be careful today! While there are some stores that are offering no minimum free shipping for the first time, many of these stores offer shipping specials all year long or they offer coupons or sales during the year that rival this day. You can visit our shipping coupons and deals section to see where you can save on those shipping charges every day of the year.

No minimum free shipping is a great time to get those stocking stuffers that you might pass by online because you don’t want to pay $8 shipping on a $10 item, but for more expensive purchases, the coupons we offer during the year will often save you more money.

While we will point out the extra special offers, this just sounds like one more made up event to me as there are some stores even calling it a "Free Shipping Day." First there was Black Friday, then Cyber Monday, then Cyber Monday 2, then Green Monday and now Free Shipping Day.

To the stores I say "Please! No more made up holidays between Thanksgiving and Christmas!" I am going to buy my presents and I do want to find a deal, but this is like the news people breaking into a TV show for a "breaking news" story about a giant snowstorm on the way that turns out to be a half an inch of snow. In my opinion, here are some great deals, but come on, let’s not overdo it.

Quite simply, this is the last day that shipping services can get a package across the United States at their regular charge and stores would love to have you spend your money with them!

Our job at egazing is to help you spend your money wisely. Take advantage of these last minute deals if you have some last minute shopping to do, but remember that there will be great bargains in the after holiday sales too!

Where has the Gaze-ette been?
Before we get into some of today’s hot deals, I want to say a word about what I am sure you are thinking (like I have been!) where is the egazing gaze-ette? Why am I getting a newsletter now?

Yes, it’s been quite a while since I sent out newsletters. Many of you have certainly reminded me when I see you. For some time, the gaze-ette, along with the website egazing.com has really not been updated as well as it should have. Those close to me know that life really got in the way for me over the past 2 years. However, egazing is coming back bigger and better than ever before with lots of new features!

These past few months, Jeni has joined the egazing staff and we have been redesigning the website to feature unique Gift Ideas (along with coupons) so that you can find a gift and deal on the same page!

Along with the growing Gift Ideas section, we have a new blog that features our egazing Deals of the Day and shopping tips. We also have started a facebook page that Jeni updates, so you can follow along on our latest announcements at the website. Please join me in giving her a big egazing welcome!

30 stores with Free Shipping no minimum order on Cyber Monday
Our most popular article last week was our list of stores that offered free shipping on Cyber Monday with no minimum order.

Most times, stores will put a minimum size on an order making that really cool $9 item not so great when you have to pay $6 or $7 in shipping to get it.

You will usually find me suggesting you take advantage of a coupon at a store since those discounts on any order happen more often than free shipping, but the rules seem to have changed this year.

This holiday season, Wal-Mart started the free shipping on any item and Amazon quickly followed up with a matching deal at their site. A number of other stores are also offering these deals and we will be watching that list for you so you can find that gift you want and get it shipped for less than it would cost at the store.
